Types Of Whitening
Take-home custom bleaching traysThis treatment is administered by a dental professional in-office, but the whitening process itself takes place at home.
During your first visit custom trays are made to precisely fit your mouth. Then, your dentist will provide you with bleaching gel and will show you how to use it correctly and safely. Treatment takes around two weeks, over which time you should notice a considerable difference in the colour of your teeth. You wear the trays for 2-6 hours per day, according to your dentist’s instructions.

Is teeth whitening safe?
We would always recommend teeth whitening be performed by an approved dentist. Our dental experts are trained to carry out various whitening procedures and identify cases where whitening would not be recommended.
Patients suffering from gum disease or with dental crowns are advised against this treatment. It would be recommended to have an initial checkup before any teeth whitening treatments. If you have any concerns about the risks of whitening your teeth, talk to our dental experts first. Our team is always happy to help.
Frequently asked questions
How do at-home teeth whitening kits work?
Dentist-provided whitening kits use whitening gel and trays made to fit your teeth. You wear the trays at home as instructed, gradually lightening the colour of your natural teeth. At Victoria Road Implant & Dental Clinic in Swindon, we will check your suitability and explain how to use your kit.
Is at-home teeth whitening safe?
Using a kit prescribed by a dentist is the safest way to whiten your teeth at home. Your dentist will first check that your teeth and gums are healthy. Temporary sensitivity or gum irritation can occur; contact the clinic if these symptoms bother you.
How long does home whitening take?
Treatment commonly takes around two to six weeks, although results vary. Follow your dentist’s instructions on how much gel to use and how long to wear the trays. Using extra gel or wearing them for longer than advised can increase irritation.
Will whitening work on crowns, veneers or fillings?
Whitening only lightens natural teeth; it will not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings. This may create a difference in shade between your teeth and existing restorations. Your dentist can explain how this could affect your results before you begin.
